Neil has been defending criminal cases since 1992. Over the years, he has defended offenses ranging from speeding tickets in traffic court up to and including multiple counts of First Degree Murder, including cases in which the Death Penalty has been sought. He's conducted numerous court hearings, bench trials and jury trials in a wide variety of misdemeanor and felony matters; he has done post-conviction and appellate work; he's argued before the Supreme Court of Illinois.

Criminal law and immigration law are strongly intertwined. Decisions made in a criminal case for a non-U.S. citizen may have devastating consequences for that person's immigration status. It may be a cruel surprise for a non-U.S. citizen to work out a deal in a criminal case that avoids prison, only to expose himself/herself, because of that deal, to removal proceedings. Deportation may occur irrespective of whether that non-U.S. citizen has a U.S. citizen spouse, U.S. citizen children, a house, a car, or a business. It is imperative that, for non-U.S. citizens, criminal law decisions are made with consideration of immigration law.
